2020 has been a year like no other in living memory. Governments and societies around the world have battled an enemy that recognises not borders, ethnicities, political beliefs nor social backgrounds. Lockdown, social distancing, and social bubble have invaded our common lexicon and have framed our social interactions for the majority of this year. The pandemic has claimed people’s loved ones, their livelihoods, and shuttered whole sections of the economy. We want this crisis to end, and we wish it need not have happened in our time. But as the year draws to a close, Christmas the season of perpetual hope approaches and we have reason to be optimistic.
We can look forward to a new year and the imminent roll out of vaccines which we hope will effectively stop the spread of the virus, reopen economies, and allow us all gradually to resume normal life. In global politics, a new leader who promises multilateralism, inclusivity, and pluralism will be inaugurated in January. The great work from home experiment will usher in positive long term changes for businesses, for employees, for society, and for the environment. Always in motion is the future, but for now we are right to be optimistic for 2021.
At Spencer Lennox it has been a baptism of fire since we launched in November. It is safe to say that in all my considerations around establishing a new recruitment venture, a global pandemic did not feature in the business plan. It has been a challenging two months for sure, but recruitment is a good bellwether for the economy generally and each week that has passed recruitment activity has opened up more. To the organisations who have availed of the services of Spencer Lennox over the last two months, I would like to thank you sincerely for choosing us as your recruitment partner. To the candidates with whom we have worked – we are very mindful of the trust you place in us. It is both a great privilege and a great responsibility to work as a recruiter. I am delighted that we have been able to successfully assist a number of employers and candidates find the right fit so far.
As 2020 draws to a close, we look forward to a better 2021 when we can meet again in person. To all our candidate and employer clients and friends, we wish you a very Happy Christmas, and a Peaceful and Prosperous New Year.
